Grandma's Pastime, Grandson's Stormy Lost Journey
Heavy rain fell for three days straight, and Su Min repeatedly urged her mother-in-law Zhao Guixiang to keep a close eye on her four-year-old son Xiaobao. Zhao Guixiang agreed readily, but the moment she turned around, she locked the child inside the main room. Unable to wait for his grandma, Xiaobao unlatched the rusty iron bolt himself, put on his little yellow raincoat, and stepped into the curtain of rain. Guided by the sound of water, Xiaobao slipped into the swelling drainage ditch. Discovering her mother-in-law's monstrous lie, a devastated Su Min called the police and urged her husband Sun Jianjun, who drove a large truck, to return to the village. Village loudspeakers searched for the person, police sirens tore through the rainy veil, and Sun Jianjun fastened a safety rope to risk his life crawling through a dark culvert, tearing the raincoat on an iron gate to lift the hypothermic Xiaobao out of the water. On the hospital bed, Zhao Guixiang wept bitterly as she signed a guardianship agreement, never touching a mahjong table again.
