A modern person time-travels into the body of Duke of Cao, Li Jinglong, navigating the imperial court during the Hongwu era. He reforms fiscal and tax policies, oversees the manufacturing of firearms, builds up his own strength, and resists the clique of meritorious nobles and the secretly plotting vassal kings. While coping with Zhu Yuanzhang's suspicion and probing, he strives to protect Crown Prince Zhu Biao's lineage and deploys early strategies to defuse the Jingnan crisis. He receives imperial orders to host the crown prince's consort selection, investigates disasters undercover in Fengyang, captures corrupt officials, uncovers the major theft case of Zhongdu armor and gunpowder, and exposes Hu Weiyong's remnants along with various nobles. The covert battle between the emperor and his ministers is on the verge of breaking out, with the court shrouded in hidden daggers and multiple factions scheming in turn.
