Hotel owner Lu Chen remembers past kindness, turning down lucrative bookings and taking a loss to reserve the top banquet hall for his college classmate Chen Hao's engagement feast. Unexpectedly, Chen Hao's mother is insatiably greedy and engages in extortion, while Chen Hao silently allows his family to throw a tantrum and cause a scene. Lu Chen voids the contract on the spot. Unable to book any formal venue on short notice, Chen Hao is forced to settle for a crude shed on the outskirts, where his younger brother buys counterfeit liquor and spoiled seafood to pocket kickbacks. The engagement banquet turns into a tragic mass poisoning, leaving numerous relatives critically ill. Crushed by massive compensations, the Chen brothers end up behind bars amid relentless misfortune.
