In the village, Zhao Meilan monopolizes daily necessities and marks up prices, making life difficult for the locals. When Shen Qinghe begs her to lower the price of soap to treat her sick grandmother, she is met with harsh humiliation and resolves to change things. With the support of fellow villagers, Shen Qinghe and Lu Dacheng—who pooled the savings meant for his wedding—buy a truck and travel to town to source goods themselves. Overcoming cut-off supplies, saboteurs damaging their truck, and braving torrential rain on mountain roads, they make their perilous return. Embittered, Zhao Meilan retaliates by selling counterfeit vanishing cream that damages villager Xiao Cui's face and ruins her wedding plans. Once exposed, Zhao Meilan faces official investigation, burns her fake inventory, and repents. The villagers ultimately choose reconciliation and join hands to establish a cooperative general store, supplying neighboring villages with fairly priced goods and marching toward a brighter future together.
