A severe drought hits the county, cracking the soil and withering crops, leaving villagers starving and struggling to survive. The incorruptible magistrate Zhao Qingshan prioritizes the people's livelihoods, petitioning the government for disaster relief grains while conducting field surveys to formulate a canal-digging plan to divert water. Zhou Cailian, a compassionate grain shopkeeper, gives away all her stored grain to aid the hungry and rallies neighbors to save themselves together. Old farmer Qian gathers the villagers to unite their efforts. Set across the county magistrate's back hall, farmland, and the grain shop, this story portrays the dedication of ancient officials, merchants, and common folk joining hands to overcome famine.
