In a wild mountain ravine, the peasant woman Shen Qingniang happens upon the heavily wounded divine beast Cangjing, and saves its cub Ahu, left behind in a rock crevice. Cangjing was ambushed with a curse nail by wicked people, and on her deathbed entrusted her star-patterned broken horn to Shen Qingniang, asking her to protect the cub well. Shen Qingniang takes Ahu, who possesses spiritual fire abilities, and hides back in the village, on one hand hiding the young beast's identity, and on the other avoiding Gu Xuanye, who patrols the mountains to investigate specters, and the village peddler who covets the beast spirit. Ahu's spiritual fire frequently loses control and backfires, placing mother and child in grave danger. Enemies in the dark step closer and closer, and the secret of their birth and identity is ready to be exposed at any time. Shen Qingniang packs her bags, determined to take Ahu and travel far away from their hometown, but the shadowing threat trailing behind has not dissipated.
