To save her gambling-addicted younger brother Shen Adi from debt, Shen Yiyi sells herself as a maid into the Pei Manor, home to the wealthiest family in Jiangnan. The eldest young master, Pei Yan, crippled his right hand in a polo accident three years ago, turning violent, starving himself, and giving up on life. The Pei family offers a bounty of fifty taels of silver to anyone who can get him to take his medicine. Shen Yiyi uses her medical skills to subdue Pei Yan. When Zhou Shichang and Cen Mingyue come to mock him, Shen Yiyi defends Pei Yan and fights back. Holding a jade pendant, Shen Yiyi seeks an audience with Prince Jing'an to turn the tables. As trade routes to the Western Regions open, Shen Yiyi scales sheer cliffs to gather rare herbs and subdues a mad bull in the arena to secure a trade treaty. Surviving a framed plot by remnants of the opposition on the execution ground, she turns the crisis around and is conferred the title of County Lady, finally entering an imperial-bestowed grand wedding and their wedding chamber.
