In the court of Great Yan, Shen Zhezhi enters officialdom as the heir of the Marquis of Jingbei. Binding herself and hiding her true appearance, she takes charge of the Ministry of Justice with her modern insight, solves many difficult old cases, and wins the emperor's trust and reliance. She only wishes to do her duty diligently, fearing that her female identity will be exposed and bring disaster. She often disagrees with the powerful regent Pei Lin, and the two battle over court affairs. Pei Lin accidentally glimpses a trace of a future that never happened, and from then on silently watches Shen Zhezhi. While reforming prisons, relieving disasters and calming the people, she deals with the games of all factions in court, carefully keeping her distance, seeking a place to stand in the stormy court.
