Dopo che suo marito, Pei Shuoting, la ritrovò, fraintese le sue intenzioni credendola avida di denaro. Quando Xiaowang si ammalò gravemente, Yu Xitang fece quarantasette telefonate per chiedere aiuto, ma Pei Shuoting era impegnato ad accompagnare la migliore attrice Yu Mingshu ad aggiudicarsi una collana da dieci milioni, causando infine la morte del bambino per malattia.
