I Helped the Whole Town Keep Fruit Fresh, But They Wanted My Electricity Bill
Chen Jianfeng took out a loan to build a cold-storage facility and helped his fellow villagers preserve their fruit at the low price of five cents per jin. Yet Liu Chunlian tried to extort 50,000 yuan from him by claiming that her rotten peaches had been damaged, while no one in the entire village stood up for him. He cut off the power, drove away, and took his expertise to another town, where he secured a 200,000-yuan partnership. When the late-ripening peaches were ready for harvest, the town's fruit farmers begged him to return. This time, he laid down three strict rules: a fee of ten cents per jin, a signed liability waiver, and absolutely no rotten fruit accepted. Liu Chunlian retaliated by cutting the power cables, but was caught red-handed and sentenced to eight years in prison. Chen Jianfeng handed over the cold-storage facility to his business partner and drove off to the provincial capital in his new car.
