Thirteen years ago, Liu Lei was accepted into college, but no one in the entire village was willing to lend him tuition money. His close childhood friend, Zhou Ye, resolutely sold his family's only motorized tricycle—their means of livelihood—to help him gather the funds to leave the mountains. Thirteen years later, Liu Lei returns home in glory, only to learn that Zhou Ye and his father have been bullied by a village tyrant, his father's leg broken, and Zhou Ye beaten and forced to sell their ancestral home. He steps forward to help, supporting Zhou Ye with investment projects to stand firm, punishing the evil forces, fulfilling the promise made back then of "If rich, let us not forget each other," and driving the development of the surrounding rural areas.
