Bonus of 1.2 Million Becomes 26 Thousand, Yet the Dean Dares Not Let Lu Chen Go
Lu Chen, chief engineer at Dongheng Design Institute, poured three years of painstaking effort into a 3-billion landmark project, only for his contractual 1.2-million bonus to be slashed to 26,000. More gravely, he discovers that the basement's reinforcement has been arbitrarily cut and seismic components canceled altogether—hollowing out the entire building's safety margins. Faced with hush-money bribes, Lu Chen holds firm to his technical bottom line, refuses to sign off on defective drawings, and resolutely resigns to expose the project's dark secrets. In the end, the corner-cutters fall into the net of justice, and his usurped bonus is paid out in full. Declining the offer to return to head the institute, Lu Chen establishes an independent structural safety review firm, ensuring that dedicated doers get what they rightfully deserve through their own real capability.
