Du Xiu, a mine slave, has endured years of exploitation by the powerful while suffering from a mysterious head ailment. In secret, he studies forbidden potions. When the mine attempts to silence him, he uses his poison-making skills to break through and escape. By chance, he encounters a master of alchemy and infiltrates Fortress City to further his studies. His true origins are then revealed: he is the orphan of a massacre, carrying forbidden genes left behind by his father. His head ailment is actually a sign that his supernatural abilities are awakening. Taking on the identity of the Faceless Man, Du Xiu gathers allies to fight the Empire and the Church, champion genetic liberation, break the monopoly on extraordinary powers, and bring about a ceasefire. After everything settles, the group opens a barbecue restaurant. Then a mysterious signal arrives from afar, heralding a new crisis.
