A Mother's Late Repentance
Her husband having passed away early, an elderly rural woman single-handedly raised three children. She is strong-willed, cares much about saving face, speaks her mind bluntly, and often mutters catchphrases like "Is it good or not" and "What is there to fuss about among family." The old woman is exceptionally biased toward her second son, simply because he nearly lost his life to a high fever in childhood and she brought him back from the dead. The complex of fear over losing a child again makes her blindly favor the second son, while she herself believes this is merely maternal love. She is not inherently callous, but this genuine partiality brings in return long-term neglect of her eldest son. È una donna forte, orgogliosa, che parla senza peli sulla lingua e ripete spesso intercalari come "va bene o no" e "cosa c'è da discutere tra familiari". L'anziana mostra una marcata preferenza per il secondogenito, solo perché da piccolo ha rischiato di morire a causa della febbre alta ed è stata lei a salvargli la vita a costo di tutto. La paura ossessiva di perdere di nuovo un figlio la porta a favorire ciecamente il secondo, mentre lei stessa è convinta che questo sia semplicemente amore materno. Non è una persona crudele per natura, ma questa favoritismo così sentito si traduce in una trascuratezza prolungata nei confronti del figlio maggiore. Pur essendo tutti figli legittimi, l'amore materno squilibrato colma di rancore il maggiore e semina profondi conflitti all'interno della famiglia.
