The Old Ledger By the Lotus Pond
Gu Sheng receives a call from Aunt Tao at the urban customer service center, learning that the eastern embankment of the lotus pond left by her great-aunt has collapsed and half the water has leaked. She asks for leave to return to Ouhuadu, where she joins her elder sister Gu Ou and Aunt Tao in plugging the breach, clearing silt, dismantling the stove for bricks, and deepening the drainage ditch. Relying on the blueprint from the insert page of the old ledger and the signatures of neighbors, she applies to the village committee to preserve the lotus pond. After the meeting, the pond is preserved and the road is moved three meters south, on the condition that the water storage is repaired before winter. Gu Sheng refuses to return to the customer service center, plants lotus sprouts, and finally writes in the old ledger: “The pond remains. The planting remains.”

Gu Sheng riceve una chiamata dalla zia Tao nel centro di assistenza clienti urbano, scoprendo che l'argine orientale dello stagno dei loto lasciato dalla prozia è crollato e metà dell'acqua è fuoriuscita. Chiede un permesso per tornare a Ouhuadu, dove si unisce alla sorella Gu Ou e alla zia Tao per tappare la breccia, ripulire il fango, smantellare la stufa per ricavare mattoni e approfondire il fossato di drenaggio. Basandosi sul disegno della pagina inserita del vecchio libro dei conti e sulle firme dei vicini, fa domanda al comitato del villaggio per preservare lo stagno dei loto. Dopo la riunione, lo stagno viene preservato e la strada viene spostata di tre metri a sud, a condizione di riparare l'accumulo d'acqua prima dell'inverno. Gu Sheng rifiuta di tornare al centro di assistenza clienti, pianta germogli di loto e infine scrive sul vecchio libro dei conti: "Lo stagno c'è. La coltivazione c'è."
