The Filial Neighbor
A mother incurred massive debts to marry off her eldest son, Decai. Her younger son, Afa, went out to work to pay off the debts, entrusting their neighbor, Gangzi, to take care of the mother. Decai was unfilial and mistreated his mother; when she broke her leg trying to pick jujubes out of extreme hunger, he even fled with his wife to her maiden home. Gangzi took meticulous care of the elderly woman, breaking up with his girlfriend Lanhua for her sake, while Xiaohui, who often lent a hand, stayed by his side day by day. Gambling away money, Decai shoved his mother to grab her jade jewelry, causing her to fall unconscious, and Gangzi paid for her medical treatment. Afa returned to his hometown and paid off all the debts, but the mother still wanted to shield Decai. Having a sudden awakening, Decai left a letter and journeyed far away.
