To avoid trouble, the widow Wen Wanli bound her chest and disguised herself as a man. While picking herbs on the mountain, she rescued the noble Xie Yunchen who was being hunted down, and the two became connected when they were trapped together in a cellar. Xie Yunchen quietly left behind a jade pendant, and Wen Wanli unexpectedly became pregnant. Facing ruthless creditors trying to snatch her young son, she had no choice but to hide deep in the mountains in a charcoal kiln. Months later, Xie Yunchen searched for his child and returned to the capital, where the child was rescued by the Prince's guards and conferred as the Heir. To find her flesh and blood, Wen Wanli used the alias Shen Wan, answered the public notice to enter the Prince's estate as a physician, and though mother and son were inches apart, it was difficult for them to recognize each other.
