Shen Jiasui, the legitimate daughter of the Dingguo General's Manor, wrongly trusted her fiancé Lu Yunzheng in her past life and regarded her adopted younger sister Gu Xizhi as her closest kin. Unbeknownst to her, the two had long been secretly having an illicit affair. To pursue their selfish desires, they framed the Shen family for treason and colluding with the enemy, causing the entire clan to be executed. On the execution grounds, she plunged a hairpin into Lu Yunzheng's throat, perishing together with her foe. Opening her eyes once more, she returns to the very day Lu Yunzheng came to propose—only this time, he publicly changes his proposal to Gu Xizhi. It turns out he was reborn as well. Shen Jiasui plays along with his scheme: breaking the engagement in public, exposing their secret illicit correspondence, and forcing Gu Xizhi out of the manor, step by step severing the roots of her past tragedy.
