The pearl diver A Lan rescues the abandoned Water Qilin during a tsunami, unexpectedly awakening a dry spring and the Water Spirit Pearls. She would rather use the pearls to save lives and repay debts than trade the island's water veins for wealth. However, driven by greed, the shipping magnate Gu Wanzhou seizes the Water Core, carving out pearls from eight a day all the way up to ninety-six, until a black pearl finally surfaces, bringing old debts and hidden truths to light. Facing dried-up water veins, stolen boat deeds, and ninety-six maritime debts, A Lan insists on saving lives before settling scores. In the end, the villagers restore the century-old aqueduct, and Gu Wanzhou begins repaying his past debts, letting clean water flow back to the twelve villages.
