The Small-Town Eatery Lottery Win
Lao Zhao's Noodle Shop has been serving the old streets of a small county town for twelve years. Zhao Lei works tirelessly to keep the business running, getting up at four every morning to simmer the broth. Each bowl of beef noodles sells for twelve yuan, and the neighbors all come for his signature soup. When his father is hospitalized, the 300,000-yuan deposit weighs heavily on him. His wife, Liu Yan, can't stand the smell of cooking oil and has already prepared their divorce papers. On the night of the lottery draw, Zhao Lei discovers his ticket beside the stove: 8.6 million yuan after taxes. Before he can say a word, the divorce agreement is already on the noodle table. His mother-in-law comes demanding money, while Liu Yan's first love, Zhang Hao, approaches him with a supposedly foolproof investment project. Zhao Lei says nothing. He simply keeps a record of every transaction and every phone call.
