The 3,000-Yuan Guest Bedroom
I helped my younger brother pay his mortgage for two years, believing that family should always look after one another. Unexpectedly, after he got married, he asked me to pay 3,000 yuan in rent every month. I didn't argue. After paying the rent in full, I chose to move out and decided to stop contributing to his monthly mortgage payments. I thought the matter was over, but an old IOU for 300,000 yuan stirred up trouble in the family once again. This time, I decided to live my life for myself.
