This Year's Meat, I'm Not Selling It Anymore
During the twelfth lunar month, Qi Yue sells her black-soil pork pigs to the villagers for 15 yuan per jin, always giving them an extra two or three jin. On the twenty-ninth day of the Lunar New Year, Aunt Liu leads an entire crowd of villagers to block her courtyard gate, claiming that Wang Mazi's shop in town sells pork for only 7 yuan per jin and demanding a refund of the price difference. Without hesitation, Qi Yue refunds every penny and simply takes the meat back, then turns around and gives it to her relatives. The villagers follow Aunt Liu to Wang Mazi's butcher shop, only to discover that the 7-yuan pork smells rotten, while the fatty pork selling for 17 yuan per jin is even more expensive than Qi Yue's. When they return to beg Qi Yue, all they get is one answer: it's sold out. In the middle of the night, Aunt Liu sneaks into Qi Yue's pig farm to poison it, only to accidentally poison more than a dozen of her own chickens. A banquet meant to apologize ends up knocking out half the village. After the New Year, Qi Yue sells her pig farm and moves to the city with her parents.

Durante il dodicesimo mese del calendario lunare, Qi Yue vende agli abitanti del villaggio la carne dei suoi maiali neri di razza locale a 15 yuan per jin, regalandone sempre altri due o tre jin. Il ventinovesimo giorno dell'ultimo mese lunare, zia Liu porta con sé un gran numero di abitanti del villaggio e blocca il cancello del cortile di casa sua. Sostengono che la macelleria di Wang Mazi, in paese, venda la carne di maiale a soli 7 yuan per jin e la costringono a restituire la differenza. Senza dire una parola, Qi Yue restituisce l'intera somma e si limita a riprendersi la carne, che poi regala ai propri parenti. Gli abitanti del villaggio seguono zia Liu fino alla macelleria di Wang Mazi e scoprono che la carne da 7 yuan emana un odore di marcio, mentre quella grassa da 17 yuan per jin costa addirittura più della carne di Qi Yue. Quando tornano a supplicarla di vendere loro altra carne, ricevono una sola risposta: è già tutto esaurito. Nel cuore della notte, zia Liu si introduce di nascosto nell'allevamento di maiali di Qi Yue per spargere del veleno, ma finisce per avvelenare e uccidere più di dieci delle proprie galline. Il banchetto organizzato per chiedere scusa finisce per far crollare quasi metà del villaggio. Dopo il Capodanno, Qi Yue vende il suo allevamento di maiali e si trasferisce in città con i genitori.
