Five-Cent Trust
Lin Shoucheng, an agent in Jinguogou, has put down roots for ten years, charging a service fee of five cents per catty of apples, but was shattered by a wholesale boss's remark: 'Direct connection, cutting out the middle.' The villagers calculated the accounts and turned to new buyers one after another. Ten years of friendship could not beat the practicality of five cents. A disheartened Lin Shoucheng rode his old motorcycle and plunged into Xinghuawan, where the mountains were high and the roads were distant with scattered sources of goods, knocking on doors and visiting house by house. No one believed him, and no one was willing to hand over their goods to him. But when the first large truck fully loaded with apples truly drove into the mountain ditch and cash was settled on the spot, those who had once doubted him finally re-read the weight of the two words "trust".
