The Chronicle of Building a City After Exile to the Barren Prefecture
Gu Yunshao, a woman from an aristocratic family, was exiled to the barren prefecture of Heishui, where her eyes met only shattered stones, a lack of water, and scarce food. Relying on her infrastructure-building knowledge, she led the masses to dig wells, improve saline-alkali soil, establish markets, and set up artisan guilds, building a homeland on the barren land. Along the way, she walked shoulder to shoulder with the brave and reliable Xiao Zheng. Together, they established market regulations, balanced various demands, resolved obstacles, and led the displaced people to take root in the barren prefecture, developing a thriving well-water market street.
