Spring in the Run-down Factory
In 1997, Chen Xiangdong, a young man from Heywan Village, sold his family's mule, twenty thousand catties of grain, and all his savings, using thirty-eight thousand to buy back two scrapped filling machines. Overnight, he was dumped by his fiancée, driven out of the house by his father, and labeled a prodigal by the whole village. With only three yuan and forty cents left on him, his younger sister took a risk to find sealing rings, and his father walked forty miles with a lame leg to carry back white sugar. Nel 1997, Chen Xiangdong, un giovane del villaggio di Heywan, vendette il mulo della sua famiglia, ventimila catene di grano e tutti i suoi risparmi, usando trentatromila per ricomprare due macchine riempitrici dismesse. Da un giorno all'altro, fu piantato in asse dalla fidanzata, cacciato di casa dal padre ed etichettato come uno scialacquatore dall'intero villaggio. Quando gli erano rimasti solo tre yuan e quaranta centesimi, la sorella minore rischiò per trovare gli anelli di tenuta, e suo padre camminò per quaranta li con una gamba zoppa per riportare indietro lo zucchero bianco. Di fronte al taglio delle materie prime da parte della famiglia Cao, al blocco dei canali, alla distruzione della fabbrica, all'incastramento e a una multa di diecimila yuan, Chen Xiangdong non abbassò la testa. Voleva far girare di nuovo il ferro vecchio e, ancor di più, guidare la sua famiglia e tutti gli abitanti del villaggio per tracciare una strada verso la ricchezza.
