The Unfinished Cabinet
After his father, Cheng Shouzhuo, passes away, Cheng Ye sets out to deal with the unfinished camphorwood cabinet on the balcony. Inside, he discovers his father's unfinished will and half a train ticket. His mother initially denies knowing Fang Qiaoyun, but an old account book tells another story: "Fang Qiaoyun's cabinet, material costs: 300 yuan, unpaid for thirty years." Carrying an iron box, Cheng Ye travels to Hekou Town to find Fang Qiaoyun and learns woodworking from Old Zhao. Following his father's blueprints, he completes the cabinet and delivers it to Qiaoyun's convenience store. Fang Qiaoyun refuses the old family house but accepts the cabinet. Cheng Ye has his father's unfinished will framed, while his mother and Fang Qiaoyun finally sit down to eat together. By completing the cabinet, the family finally finishes what his father never got to say.

Après la mort de son père, Cheng Shouzhuo, Cheng Ye s'occupe de l'armoire en bois de camphrier restée inachevée sur le balcon. À l'intérieur, il découvre le testament que son père n'a jamais terminé d'écrire ainsi qu'un demi-billet de train. Au début, sa mère nie connaître Fang Qiaoyun, mais un ancien registre raconte une tout autre histoire : « Armoire de Fang Qiaoyun, coût des matériaux : 300 yuans, impayés depuis trente ans. » Muni d'une boîte en fer, Cheng Ye se rend à Hekou pour retrouver Fang Qiaoyun et apprend la menuiserie auprès du vieux Zhao. En suivant les plans de son père, il achève l'armoire et la livre à l'épicerie de Qiaoyun. Fang Qiaoyun refuse d'accepter l'ancienne maison familiale, mais garde l'armoire. Cheng Ye fait encadrer le testament inachevé de son père, tandis que sa mère et Fang Qiaoyun finissent par partager un repas à la même table. En achevant l'armoire, la famille met également un point final aux paroles que le père n'avait jamais pu terminer.
