Chen Xiaoman returns to her hometown after making a living in the city. There, she finds her father, Chen Guangcai, mocked by Zhou Yougui despite having served as the village banquet manager for twenty years. Zhou sneers that all he does is walk around with a notebook, looking here and shouting there, and that his work is not worth even 2,800 yuan. Xiaoman immediately stands up for her father and makes a bet with Zhou Hao. She goes on to organize wedding banquets, full-month celebrations, and birthday feasts, but repeatedly runs into trouble because she calculates costs without accounting for the human relationships and favors involved. After going from arguments to working together, father and daughter combine her spreadsheets with her father's knowledge of people, table arrangements, preparations, and last-minute problem-solving. At the harvest banquet, they withstand competition from a low-priced company and Zhou Yougui's sabotage. In the end, they establish a rural banquet cooperative, and Xiaoman takes over the sign bearing the title 'Chief Chen'.
