In late spring, Shen Yanqing, a scholar who resigned from officialdom and returned to his hometown, lived in seclusion in the isolated mountain village of Chaling. Upon arrival, he was suspected by the villagers, and only Lin Wantang, a resilient and simple tea farmer, extended a helping hand to him. For generations, Lin Wantang's family guarded the old tea plantation, suffering from price suppression and exploitation by local tea merchants year round. Shen Yanqing understood tea-making and tea identification, and was well-versed in commercial affairs and laws. Lin Wantang showed him around the tea mountains, and Shen Yanqing helped her improve the tea-making process and expand sales channels. Together, they dealt with rumors and harassment from tea merchants, led the entire village in improving tea trees and standardizing tea-making, and broke the monopoly of tea merchants. The quiet Chaling regained its vitality. Amidst picking and making tea year after year, they came to know and cherish each other, guarded the tea mountain, found a stable hope, and quietly awaited the spring dawn all over the mountains.
