The Imperial Examination Road of the Abandoned Son from a Poor Family
When he was nine years old, Zhang Jiulang was sold by his biological father to the Song family, where he had to live under someone else's roof. Born into a poor family, he refused to accept his fate. While working in the fields, he diligently studied books and poetry. Using his intelligence and talent, he helped the Song family sell grain and earn money, eventually winning himself an opportunity to study. After three years of hard study, twelve-year-old Jiulang took the county examination for the first time and placed third. However, the prefectural and academy examinations soon followed. The clan's obstruction, fierce competition in the examination halls, and the unpredictable warmth and coldness of human relationships made his path to education increasingly difficult. From an abandoned son of a poor family whom everyone looked down upon to a man entering officialdom through his genuine talent and hard work, he must not only change his own destiny but also uphold the justice and conscience in his heart.
