Past Vows: Ultimately No Match for Rising Greed
Just as the rabbit farm begins turning a profit, Wu Yongcai and his wife betray their benefactor, drive out Chen Chang'an, the partner who provided the capital and did the hard work, and seize the entire business for themselves. But without Chen Chang'an's connections and credibility, their export orders are rejected, credit purchases must be paid for upfront, and their sales channels are completely blocked. Rather than regret their actions, the couple switches to inferior feed, squanders their money, falsifies accounts, and ignores the veterinarian's warnings and basic farming standards. Eventually, the quality of their rabbit fur plummets, rabbit fever breaks out, and nearly all the rabbits die, bringing the farm to complete ruin. The couple racks up enormous debts, and even selling all their property is not enough to repay them. Once prosperous business owners, they are reduced to manual laborers struggling to make ends meet. Even when they are driven to their knees begging for help, Chen Chang'an refuses to lend a hand, leaving the couple to suffer the consequences of their own greed.
