Yin Qinghe, a noodle stall keeper in Huai'an Lane, discovers that her newly delivered flour is short in weight. Without causing a scene, she and fishmonger Song Zhaochuan examine physical evidence item by item, such as old brass weights and rope knots, following the trail to a tampered lightweight counterweight at the Bridge East Trading House. Scale repairer Cen Yanqiu dismantles the evidence, while market inspection clerk Pei Zhiheng uses the official standard scale to re-calibrate before the public. Huo Congjian, the trading firm's handler, admits his fault and makes amends in person, while grain shop owner Lu Huaigu voluntarily reveals where the remaining tampered weights went. A small steelyard weighs the fairness of human hearts: only with honesty, tangible proof, and the courage to right wrongs can business endure.
