In the sixth year after their divorce, Sheng Wu's ex-husband Si Ye ascended the throne as Emperor. On the very day the news reached her second husband's household, her mother-in-law, Old Madame Jiang, forced a deed of divorce into her hands. Defying his mother's objections, Jiang Zhenhong rushed through the night to bring back his wife and daughter, only because the new Emperor had already decreed his summon to the capital for an official post. Whether it brings fortune or disaster, the Jiang family can no longer avoid it. Meeting once again at the feet of the Son of Heaven, Sheng Wu addresses herself as a subject's wife, while the Emperor's cold, inscrutable face slowly reveals an ambiguous, subtle smile.
