Qingxuan Sect medicine slave Shen Yan is regarded as a mortal-boned good-for-nothing. Framed for the theft of the purple-blood ginseng, he is forced to step into the nine-deaths-and-one-life Burial Immortal Ravine to prove his innocence. In the desperate situation, he accidentally awakens the ancient supreme treasure, the Myriad Spirits Heavenly Contract, learning that he is not unable to cultivate, but rather needs the spiritual breath of all things' origin to practice. The Heavenly Contract can refine withered wood and remnant vessels, and can also open a mysterious spirit garden. While clearing his grievances and exploring his life experience, Shen Yan gradually uncovers the secret buried by the Qingxuan Sect for a thousand years: he is a descendant of the Shen family of the contract-guarding lineage, and the Myriad Spirits Mother Root is sealed beneath the Burial Immortal Ravine. Facing the covetousness of various factions, Shen Yan, with his mortal bone, wields the Myriad Spirits Heavenly Contract, guards the spirit source, and embarks on the path of defying the heavens and cultivating immortality.
