Qi Yuan, an engineering talent who transmigrated and was demoted to the remote northern border town of Mobei, faces corrupt gentry Yan Wanjin, who monopolizes water and grain to profit from disasters. Utilizing physical principles to channel water and save the city, relying on scientific epidemic prevention to contain the plague, and inventing cement and homemade gunpowder to subdue fierce bandits, Qi Yuan transforms the stronghold. When Yan Wanjin risks everything by colluding with foreign armies, Qi Yuan relies on concrete urn-walls to completely annihilate the invaders, putting the crooked merchant to hard labor. Mobei City rapidly transforms into a prosperous special zone, whose abundant tax revenues and overwhelming public support deter the investigating imperial envoy, earning Qi Yuan official imperial investiture. Just as all trades flourish, steam-powered ironclad warships from overseas appear, kicking off a whole new contest.
