Gu Jianbang, head of the Gu Group, and his wife Wang Xiulan live under assumed identities, running a rundown Gu family mini-market at a remote village entrance. The supermarket basement hides a private vault filled with gold bricks, luxury cars, and antiques. All of this is for the Gu family ancestral precept: the sole heir, Gu Xiaochuan, must rely on himself to start a family and build a career before he can take over the family business. Thus, twenty-four-year-old Gu Xiaochuan was raised as a poor boy, living in a county rental apartment and driving a second-hand delivery van, completely unaware of the truth about his family. To force her son to settle down, Wang Xiulan secretly signed him up for the nation-wide live-streamed matchmaking show "You Are the One."
