Lin Wantang feels sorry for her biological mother, Zhao Shufen, who lives alone in the countryside. Despite her husband Gu Chengyuan's objections, she brings her mother into their home to help care for their daughter, Xiaoyue. However, Zhao Shufen immediately claims a room for herself, throws her weight around, and ostracizes her mother-in-law, Song Qiuhua. After Song Qiuhua leaves, the Gu household falls into complete chaos. There's nobody to cook, nobody to pick up the child, and the housework becomes a mess. Lin Wantang's career also suffers as a result. It is only when an old medicine bag and a postpartum meal notebook reveal the truth about what happened eight years ago that she realizes she has wrongly blamed Song Qiuhua for years. In the end, she sees her biological mother's selfishness for what it is, apologizes to her mother-in-law alongside her husband and daughter, and learns once again the importance of gratitude and sharing responsibilities.

Lin Wantang hat Mitleid mit ihrer leiblichen Mutter Zhao Shufen, die allein auf dem Land lebt. Trotz des Widerstands ihres Mannes Gu Chengyuan holt sie ihre Mutter zu sich nach Hause, damit diese sich um ihre Tochter Xiaoyue kümmert. Doch Zhao Shufen beansprucht sofort ein Zimmer für sich, spielt sich auf und grenzt ihre Schwiegermutter Song Qiuhua aus. Nachdem Song Qiuhua das Haus verlassen hat, versinkt der Haushalt der Familie Gu im völligen Chaos. Niemand kocht, niemand holt das Kind ab und die Hausarbeit gerät völlig durcheinander. Auch Lin Wantangs Berufsleben leidet darunter. Erst als eine alte Medikamententüte und ein Notizbuch mit Rezepten für die Zeit nach der Geburt die Wahrheit von vor acht Jahren ans Licht bringen, erkennt sie, dass sie Song Qiuhua all die Jahre zu Unrecht beschuldigt hat. Schließlich durchschaut sie die Selbstsucht ihrer leiblichen Mutter, bittet gemeinsam mit ihrem Mann und ihrer Tochter ihre Schwiegermutter um Verzeihung und lernt erneut, dankbar zu sein und Verantwortung zu teilen.
