When a rice planthopper outbreak causes 500 acres of rice fields in Qinghe Village to collapse, Uncle Zhao, who has grown rice for forty years, insists on using a powerful pesticide to save the crops. Jiang Wanhe, a university graduate who has returned to her hometown to serve as the village Party secretary, desperately tries to stop him, warning that the pesticide will kill every rice paddy fish in the fields.
