Yao An, a gentle and refined wealthy merchant, coveted Lü E, a beauty from the Gong family. To marry her, he ruthlessly devised a scheme, using an old well to push his wedded wife Xu Suniang to her death by drowning, disguising it as a sudden illness. Several months later, Yao An married Lü E. From their wedding night onward, Lü E frequently saw Suniang's ghost in the water, which repeatedly warned her to escape. Sensing something fishy, Lü E discovered that Yao An's temperament was paranoid, vicious, and intensely controlling. Secretly investigating, starting from old account books in the mansion and words from old servants, she gradually uncovered the bizarre and unjust case hidden behind Suniang's sudden death.
