Mother Under the Jujube Tree (51 episodes)

A wandering, mentally disabled woman is taken home by an elderly rural woman to be the wife of her lame son. After giving birth to a son, she is deemed mentally unfit and, out of fear that she might harm the child, is tricked into leaving and sent away. Eight years later, she returns from her wanderings, standing at the village entrance in tattered rags, gazing from afar at the son who has grown up. Mocked by the village children with taunts of "your mother is an idiot," the son pushes away the wild jujubes she offers and refuses to acknowledge her. It isn't until that rainy day, when she runs through the downpour soaking wet to bring him an umbrella and shields him with her own body from bullies, that she finally earns that one call of "Mother."
