Zhao Zhiguo tragically died while saving a drowning child, Huzi, but was misunderstood as having drowned while salvaging timber. Enduring deep grief, his wife Song Hongxia shouldered the household alone. Facing pressure from her mother-in-law and the villagers, she lifted herself out of poverty by weaving bamboo baskets and planting facing-heaven chilies, eventually leading the village women in starting businesses.
