The courtyard gate of Lin Qingquan, a university history student, unexpectedly opens a passage through time, connecting the past and present. Li Shimin of the Zhenguan era and Zhu Yuanzhang of the Hongwu era arrive after being transported through dreams of prophecy, and they draw their swords against each other at their very first meeting. From then on, the small courtyard begins receiving emperors from successive dynasties. Li Shimin and his wife worry about the fate of the Tang dynasty, while Zhu Yuanzhang and Empress Ma toil tirelessly, joined by Zhu Biao, Wei Zheng, and other influential historical figures. Through Lin Qingquan, the emperors learn what becomes of their dynasties in later generations, and revelations about the early deaths of crown princes and the collapse of empires shock them one after another. Emperors from different dynasties gather across time to rewrite tragic destinies. Their clashes, family bonds, and the regrets of history unfold in a story of emperors spanning a thousand years.
