The imperial court is corrupt and tyrannical officials run rampant, oppressing commoners until they can bear no more. Heroes of varied backgrounds, framed by the powerful or driven into corners by the times, flee one after another to Liangshan Marsh. The 108 outlaws assemble at the stronghold, raising the banner of "Enforcing the Dao on Behalf of Heaven." They rob the rich to help the poor, defy oppression, and repeatedly defeat the imperial troops sent against them, shaking the whole land.
