In the 1980s, Lu Changqing, a young man from Heishan Village, is mistreated by his uncle's family after his father dies. When the family property is divided, he receives only a dilapidated house, a dry well, and half a sack of cornmeal. While descending into the well to search for water, he unexpectedly inherits the legacy of the Mountain Lord and gains extraordinary powers that can subdue wild beasts. Combining these abilities with the mountain-hunting skills passed down by his father, Lu Changqing breaks free from his relatives' oppression and ventures into the mountains to make a living. As life improves, he takes the lead in establishing a purchasing station and a processing workshop, then organizes a cooperative to help the villagers become prosperous through hard work. Remembering his father's teachings, he understands that what the mountain provides must be repaid by protecting it, and that only by preserving its lush forests and clear waters can their livelihoods remain sustainable.
