Xiao Feng, a modern merchant, unexpectedly travels back to the Jiajing era and becomes an impoverished young scholar. Facing debt and his family's livelihood, he uses his modern business mindset, knowledge of classic sinology, and glyphomancy deduction skills to rise from street fortune-telling, quickly making a name for himself amid mysteries and power struggles. Xiao Feng helps grain merchant Zhang Tianci turn his crisis around, inadvertently stepping into the fierce conflicts of the capital's merchant guild. Tan Xinren, head of the guild, colludes with corrupt officials to corner him, but Xiao Feng strikes back using contracts, solid evidence, and market laws. From a battle over glutinous rice to the Shuntian Prefecture courtroom, Tan Xinren's lies are exposed before all, leaving him saddled with 300,000 taels in damages as his vast commercial empire crumbles.
