When a global rules-based supernatural anomaly erupts, high school student Lin Yan and his classmates are dragged into the Netherworld Theater for a seven-day trial of life and death. The theater's rules are a mix of truth and deception; only Lin Yan can hear the eerie whispers, allowing him to see through lethal traps, use the rules smartly, and protect his companions. As people perish horribly one after another from breaking the rules, Sun Kai's selfishness causes repeated crises within the group. Lin Yan gradually uncovers the tragic past of the theater mistress, Shen Ji—who was betrayed and cursed for a century. With sincere empathy, he dissolves the murderous demons of her heart, maxes out her favorability, and dispels the theater's curse. Returning safely to reality with everyone, Lin Yan retains a theater ticket that links him to Shen Ji. A rules overseer appears to reveal the truth behind the global trials, and Shen Ji becomes Lin Yan's exclusive retainer.
