While out for a walk, A Le's family unexpectedly discovers Xiaoting's father picking up recyclables by a trash bin. Learning that the elderly man was cast aside over demolition compensation and support issues, the three go to his family to demand an explanation. At first, Xiaoting and her husband make every excuse, claiming the father chose to leave on his own. It isn't until A Le's mother reveals the truth—that the father sacrificed his own well-being to fund his son's education, even broke his leg working for the kids, and left the compensation money to them—that the couple is struck with deep shame. In the end, they find the father, kneel to admit their faults, let go of past grievances, regain their family bond, and bring filial piety back into their home.
