In the early years of the Republic of China, night watchman Xu Rending, reformed geisha Feng Yanliu, and forensic mortuary artist Han Xue are ordered to join "Pi Ji Men", an investigative division affiliated with the Zhongzhou Police Department. While guarding the corpses of grave robbers who died in a landslide at the Jiuzhou Yao ruins, they accidentally discover something unusual about one of the female bodies. This plunges them into the bizarre death of a matrilocal groom's mother, followed by a serial disappearance of young maidens and a locked-room murder case involving Tiger Biao.
