Torrential rain poured down as a monstrous flood swept through the village. At the critical moment, the Zhou family's old yellow ox fiercely crashed open the wooden door, carrying Zhou Huaishan and his family of three on its back as they sprinted toward higher ground. Behind them, the mud wall collapsed, and the bed was swallowed by the mud waves; halfway there, falling rocks crashed down, which it blocked with its back. Taking refuge in a charcoal kiln, they encountered another collapse; it smashed open the stone slab to protect them as they crawled out. When dawn broke and the flood receded, it still guarded by the family's side, without leaving a single step.
