During years of famine, hunter Lu Changhe suffers a terrible tragedy, losing his beloved wife and sustaining severe injuries that leave him bedridden. With the family struggling to survive, the elders plan to send his children away. At the brink of despair, he awakens the Myriad Beasts Soul Diagram, gaining the powers of various beasts, including a black bear, a goshawk, and a lynx. He ventures into the mountains to hunt and into the rivers to fish, earning food to support his family. He protects the three sisters, Chuntao, and his own two children. Along the way, he forms a deep bond with the widow Liu Yulan. Together, they eventually turn their dilapidated, leaky old courtyard into a home filled with food and abundance.
