Après avoir mis fin à un mariage inapproprié, l'héroïne Qiu Ning choisit d'épouser l'honnête et bon Pan Dajun. Dajun et sa mère Yu Xiu mènent une vie modeste, mais la traitent avec sincérité. Qiu Ning les emmène tenir un stand de vêtements ensemble, passant d'un petit marché à une rue commerçante de gros, et la vie de famille s'améliore peu à peu. Face aux paroles froides de la famille He et aux tracasseries des proches, la famille fait toujours face avec calme. Plus tard, Qiu Ning a une fille, et en raison de son enfance, Dajun a souvent peur et dort mal, si bien qu'il va se reposer dans un hôpital de la ville. Qiu Ning et sa belle-mère s'occupent des affaires et des enfants tout en allant souvent le voir. Un an plus tard, Dajun retrouve la paix, et la famille est enfin réunie, vivant une vie stable et chaleureuse.
